Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) DC

A Blepharoplasty Procedure Can Help You Wake Up with Well-Rested and Refreshed Looking Eyes

Eyes are one of the most distinguishable features of a person. Lack of sleep, aging and sun-damage can affect what your eyes express, leaving you to think you look tired or angry all the time. Removing under-eye puffiness, drooping lids, and wrinkles with eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can make you look more youthful around the eyelid and surrounding areas.

A browpexy is a rejuvenation procedure that can refresh the appearance around your eyebrow and upper eyelid area. Unlike the brow lift, this procedure has smaller incisions and a shorter recovery period, but can still give you a fresh, alert look, and can be added to your blepharoplasty procedure.

Eyelid Surgery FAQs

What are the benefits of eyelid surgery?

Some of the benefits of this procedure include:

  • Reduces signs of aging and sun damage
  • Smooths skin surrounding the eyes
  • Brightens the appearance of dark patches under the eyes
  • Lifts the appearance of hollows under the eyes
  • Decreases puffiness under the eyes
  • Enhances youthful appearance
Am I a candidate?

Candidates:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Have realistic expectations for their desired appearance
  • Are non-smokers, or are willing to quit smoking prior to and during the recovery of the procedure
  • Are typically in their early 30’s to late 60’s
What happens during the procedure?

The exact methods of the procedure will be determined by your doctor and may involve a number of surgical techniques. In most cases, an incision can be made to the upper eyelid or lower eyelid. Some patients have this procedure done on both lids.

Once the incision is made, the doctor can remove or reposition fat, tighten the muscles and/or remove excess skin. Eyelid incisions are usually closed with sutures or skin glue.

Will there be scarring on my face as a result of the procedure?

The incisions are designed to be concealed in the natural structures of the eyelid region.

What is the recovery period like?

Elevation of the head and cold compresses are helpful to your recovery time. During the consultation, the doctor will go over recovery and any specific instructions that you may need.

While each individual heals differently, patients typically recover within one to two weeks. Patients can see results after swelling and bruising has gone down.

Do men also get this procedure done?

Just as women are seeking contouring procedures to help achieve a more trim, youthful appearance, more men are now looking to do the same. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, eyelid surgery is one of the top surgeries for men.

Should I also consider a browpexy?

During your consultation, the doctors at Bruno | Brown Plastic Surgery will consult with you to determine which areas to target to achieve the best appearance for your forehead and brow.

During your consultation, we’ll discuss:

  • Drooping eyelid skin
  • Skin elasticity
  • Drooping brows
  • Shape of brows
  • Surgical technique
What is the difference between a brow lift and browpexy?

In a brow lift, the incision is made around your hairline area and refreshes the forehead and brow, whereas browpexy targets the area between upper eyelid and eyebrow specifically. Browpexy is performed when patients don’t need a full brow lift and is done in conjunction with an upper eyelid lift. It also has a shorter recovery time and more minimal scarring.

During your consultation, your doctor will discuss which procedure is right for you.

What happens during the procedure?

Unlike the brow lift procedure, which alters the appearance of the entire forehead and brow region, the browpexy targets the area between the upper eyelid and the eyebrow.

Using the eyelid incision as an access point, the eyebrow tissue is released and sutured in an elevated position.

What are the benefits of a browpexy?

A browpexy is an excellent add-on to the blepharoplasty procedure.

Benefits include:

  • Refreshes the appearance of skin around the brow
  • Reduces the appearance of lines and tiredness in the eyebrow and upper eyelid area
  • Restores a youthful appearance

You’re a good candidate if you:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Have a milder degree of eyebrow structure descent
  • Are a non-smoker, or are willing to quit smoking prior to and during the recovery of the procedure
  • Have realistic expectations for your desired appearance
